All Saints' Church was founded in 1889 by immigrants to Pittsburgh from
England who desired a place for traditional Anglican worship in their home
neighborhood. Meeting at first on the
second floor of Morrison's Drugstore at the corner of Woods Run and McClure,
and later meeting at various sites in the neighborhood, All Saints did not have
a permanent home until 1911. That
building was demolished in 1930 to make way for Ohio River Boulevard, and the
present building was completed and consecrated in October of 1931.
Over the years,
All Saints has been a thriving parish with a vibrant outreach to the local
community. Everything from caring for
orphans and school children to spaghetti dinners and social events has been
based in the ministry of All Saints' Church.
Nonetheless,
shifts in the American culture, in the community of Brighton Heights and other
factors have taken their toll on All Saints' Church. The congregation's weekly attendance at
Eucharist began to slip and greatly declined during a number of years in which
there was no stable leadership. All
Saints' came dangerously close to closing.
