Bronwyn and I, two grandmothers, drove up to Ambridge on July 5, 2002, to see our new
grandson, Nathaniel, and our 5-year-old grandson, Isaac, and to participate in Nathaniel's
baptism at Grace Episcopal Church, Mt. Washington. (It was also Fr. Arnie's last day as
rector of that parish.)
 |
| Tara holds Nathaniel. He is just past two weeks old, and he sleeps most
of the day. Nightime is when he wakes up, to the delight of his parents. |
 |
| Here is Isaac, who is delighted to be receiving a golf club and golfballs
from Bronwyn. We found the golf club to be a mixed blessing in the hands of a 5-year-old:
the calming effects of a quiet golf game escaped him; he found the club was far more
exciting when swung around in an alarming circular pattern that almost grazed the fish
tank and one of the grandmother's arms. |
 |
| One of Nathaniel's drunkenly blissful expressions. Another expression,
less blissful and accompanied by furious cries, once caused his big brother to exclaim
worriedly, "Take him to the hospital!" --and to cover his ears. |
